About Iu Mien Studies

Our mission is to empower the Iu Mien people by promoting and advancing academic studies that highlight our unique culture, language, history, and contributions to society. We strive to inspire the next generation of scholars and leaders to take an active interest in the Mien community, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

In our content, you may come across both the terms “Mien” and “Iu Mien.” We want to emphasize that both terms refer to the same ethnic group and should be understood as interchangeable when referring to our people. We understand that language is fluid and can vary regionally, culturally, or individually and we recognize that individuals from the Mien community may identify themselves using either or both terms.
